Protection
Floors that are staying, adjoining rooms, benchtops in other areas, and the route to the skip are protected. Dust is contained, especially in homes that are still occupied.
Asbestos
Older kitchens may have asbestos in vinyl floor tiles and backing, splashback linings or behind old stoves. Tested first; removed by separately licensed asbestos removalists.
Apartments
Strata approval, lift bookings, protected common areas, restricted hours and bagged waste. See bathroom demolition for how apartment jobs run.
Salvage
Appliances in working order and good cabinetry can sometimes be donated or sold. Agree before work starts.

Questions people ask before they commit
How much does kitchen demolition cost in Sydney?
As a 2026 guide, removing a typical house kitchen commonly costs $1,500 to $4,000 including waste removal. Stone benchtops, tiled splashbacks, apartment access and asbestos (priced separately) are the usual variables.
Can stone benchtops be salvaged?
Sometimes, with careful removal, though stone often cracks during removal and resale value is limited. If you want to reuse or sell benchtops, say so before the job is priced.
Who disconnects the gas cooktop?
A licensed gas fitter disconnects and caps the gas supply. A licensed electrician isolates circuits and a licensed plumber caps water and waste before the kitchen is removed.
Do you remove floor tiles too?
If scoped. Many new kitchens need floor tiles removed, especially where the layout changes or new flooring is going throughout. Tile removal adds time and dust control.
